Tata HBX mini SUV spotted on test run in India

New Delhi : You remember the Tata HBX SUV prototype? Yep, the one that was showcased in India
last year during Geneva Motor Show 2019. Yeah, so, we have new sets of the upcoming Tata SUV’s
spy shots. The new images of the mini SUV on a test run in Pune, unfortunately, do not reveal extensive
new details about the car on account of the test mule being covered in camouflage. However, it would
seem that the the SUV is quite close to production, thanks to the tri-arrows being spotted on the mule’s
grille.
The upcoming Tata SUV in India will be underpinned by the ALFA platform — same as the one that the
Tata Altroz hatchback is based on. Also, that tri-arrow styling we just mentioned — its not new for the
brand, of course; Tata has used the same styling element on the Tata Nexon SUV — both the standard
ICE model as well as the EV one. But it hadn’t been seen on the HBX thus far. Other notable elements
include a split headlamp setup, LED DRLs, faux skid plate, dual-tone alloy wheels, etc.
As for the cabin, the SUV’s dashboard layout could be inspired by the Tata Altroz. Additionally, HBX is
also expected to feature plenty of features and provisions borrowed from the Altroz, including a semi-
digital instrument panel, large multi-information display, seven-inch infotainment system, steering mounted
controls, etc.
We expect the Tata HBX to come powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. For transmission,
Tata Motors is likely to offer choice between a manual transmission and an AMT automatic gearbox.
